History
The Sorcerer's Guild was always a secretive organization; they swore fealty to the Crown on paper, but, beyond paying a token tax, it was never really a meaningful statement. The Kingdom left the Sorcerer's Guild alone, and the Sorcerer's Guild left the Kingdom alone. Until the Great War.
The first time a Sorceress engaged in combat, she had been quite literally laughed out of the camp. What could a little waif of a girl, in that silly outfit, hope to accomplish? Later that night, when the Monstren had nearly overrun the encampment, a great explosion shook the ground, leaving behind a crater, a wet mist, and the frozen remains of the Monstren attackers. In the center of the carnage, her hat and hair slightly damp, the Sorceress emerged with her head held high.
Strategies
The Sorceress defines "Glass Cannon". She is exceptionally destructive; however channeling all that energy into Attacks leaves her practically defenseless. With each Attack, the Sorceress can lay waste to 7 tiles--however her power is indiscriminate. Allies in range of her blasts (including the Sorceress herself!) can be overcome and killed just as easily as her enemies.
The Sorceress' drastic contrast in Attack and Defense rating make her both great and weak against many Minions. Take the Kobold, for example. Her chance to hit a Kobold is right around 88%. However, the Kobold's speed may allow multiple Kobolds to reach and Attack her before she ever has a chance to take a Turn. For similar reasons, the Sorceress is extra susceptible to Ranged Minions or Minions with high Movement.
There are a few strategies to employ in building your deck to help the Sorceress overcome her low Defense rating. Ranged +10 Defense and Double Defense Cards both have low Deck Point Values and many can be included in a Sorceress-focused deck. In addition, the Sorceress specific card Glacial Shield is the strongest available Defense buff and absorbs the next Attack aimed her way. Keeping an eye on the board and playing Defensive buffs when your Sorceress is in the greatest danger is the key to keeping her safe.
The real fun with the Sorceress is letting her do what she does best: Destroy! Her base Splash 1 Attack is powerful as-is, but there are some cards which focus her energy into a massively powerful force. Tsunami Splash boosts her Splash radius to 2--meaning her Attack will hit 19 tiles! While Tsunami Splash decreases her Attack power by 25%, it's still as strong as a Knight.
Drowning Soul has the potential to flip a blowout right on its head. This devastatingly powerful card launches the Sorceress on a suicide mission. It sets her Splash radius to 2 (she'll Attack 19 tiles) without decreasing her Attack rating at all. It also doubles her Movement, allowing her to position herself where ever she needs to go. Finally, it sets her Range to 0--meaning she will Attack her own tile! Be careful with this card, as a suicide attacker does not factor collateral damage into her Tactics. She will Attack the largest group of Minions she can, whether they be friend or foe. Timing this card right can win a match in one move.
